8 May 2020 fishing report & news

8 May 2020

Dad joke:

I went into a pet shop and asked for 12 bees. The shopkeeper counted out 13 and handed the over.

“You’ve given me one too many”

“That one is a freebie”. he said

The Tweed river is awesome this time of year. Mild and calm weather, and flathead and mulloway are pushing upstream to their winter hunting grounds, I love it!

School flathead will eagerly attack small trolled lures

The odd trip is producing some quality flathead, with some big whiting and bream amongst them. Popping MMD splash prawns in honeybee colour over shallow water is getting the surface strikes, while in the deeper channels teabagging with Ecogear ZX40 blades in 440 and 447 colour and Samaki Vibelicious 70mm soft vibes in Ghost bait and White bait colours are getting plenty of solid fish.

Trolling over sandflats around 1 to 2.2 metre depth with Pontoon 21 crackjack 48 SP DR’s will see you amongst the fish action.

We have this week been using our new secret weapon lure in 2-3.5 metre depth and it just slays big flathead and lots more. It’s that good we don’t want to really share it too much, but if you’re a regular follower and keen on grabbing some, message us privately to buy a couple, or SMS Clint on

More and bigger flathead are showing up which is great to see, and expected this time of year.

Some solid flathead are appearing in the rivers

Samaki Vibelicious soft vibes and Ecogear ZX40 account for their share share of flatties, in much the same colours as Smithy mentioned above, in the clear water normal for the dry months.

The water temperature dropped to 20 degrees in the river after the cool weather. This will bring on more flathead, squid, mulloway, snapper, flounder and more tasty species.

a charter with us

This coming week we move past the full moon and into neaps, my favourite tides for working the deeper sections of the Northern broadwater such as Currigee reef, Ephraim reef, around the Seaway, and the main channel East of Carters bank.
